PureRootFood Privacy Policy

PureRootFood (“we”, “our”, “the app”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, what we don’t collect, and how the app works.

Summary

PureRootFood is built to be privacy-respecting by default. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information about you to our servers — because we don’t operate any servers. All your activity stays on your device.

What we don’t collect

• We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, location, or any other personal identifier
• We do not track which products you scan
• We do not track which farms or shippers you view or bookmark
• We do not use analytics, advertising SDKs, or third-party tracking tools
• We do not have user accounts — there is nothing to sign up for

Data stored on your device only

The app stores the following data locally on your iPhone using Apple-provided storage. This data never leaves your device.

• Bookmarked shippers: stored in iOS UserDefaults
• App preferences: stored in iOS UserDefaults

Deleting the app removes all locally stored data.

Third-party services we connect to

When you use specific features, your device connects directly to the following services. We do not see, log, or store these requests.

Open Food Facts (world.openfoodfacts.org)

When you look up a product by barcode, your device sends the barcode number to Open Food Facts, a free, open-source product database operated by a non-profit. Open Food Facts has its own privacy policy at https://world.openfoodfacts.org/privacy. They do not require authentication and do not associate barcodes with users.

External directory websites

Tapping a link in the Local tab (LocalHarvest, USDA, EatWild, etc.) opens that website in your browser. Once you leave the app, those sites’ own privacy policies apply.

Camera access

The app may request permission to access your device camera for barcode scanning. The camera feed is processed entirely on-device using Apple’s VisionKit framework. Camera images and recognized barcodes are never recorded, stored, or transmitted off your device.

Payments

PureRootFood is completely free. There are no in-app purchases, subscriptions, or payments of any kind, so we never process or receive any payment information.

Children

PureRootFood is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from children under 13. Since we do not collect data from anyone, this is enforced by design.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change this policy, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new effective date. Since we do not collect user data, we cannot notify you by email — the only way to be notified is to revisit this page.
